This branding project for Tileworks, a working museum in Bucks County, PA, explores three distinct logo directions: pictorial, abstract, and typographic. Drawing from Henry Mercer’s original tile designs and the museum’s continued tile-making practices, each concept reimagines the brand with a fresh, modern perspective. The logos and supporting collateral aim to give Tileworks a contemporary identity that feels current and creative, while still honoring its artisanal craftsmanship and cultural significance.
The pictorial mark features illustrations directly inspired by Henry Mercer’s original tile motifs. The rabbit references Mercer’s storytelling through ceramics, creating an instantly recognizable and historically rich icon. It honors the museum’s legacy while giving it a warm, heritage-driven visual identity.
The abstract logo draws from the shapes and patterns found in Mercer’s handcrafted tilework. Using a modern, colorful interpretation, the design blends organic curves and geometric forms to reflect the creativity and artisanal nature of Tileworks. It’s bold, playful, and rooted in visual abstraction, allowing flexibility across brand applications.
This concept integrates the initials "T" and "W" into a unified mark, inspired by the structure and symmetry of tile patterns. With a clean and modern aesthetic, the design focuses on strong letterforms and earthy tones to create a sophisticated yet grounded identity that speaks to both tradition and design clarity.
